Dajintou(大井頭)is an old well located on busy Minquan Road. The well mouth is sealed with an iron cover and there is an introductory sign at the roadside.
The well can be traced back to the 1500s, although the exact time it was dug is unknown. Ships arriving in Taiwan at the time entered the Taijiang Inner Sea and landed nearby. The well was the closest source of fresh water to the harbor, the water was abundant and sweet. Not only was it a source of water for passing sailors, later it was used by local residents. It can be described as the first water source in Taiwan’s development history, showing its importance. Remember to take a look when passing and ponder on the many thirsts it quenched long ago.
